Description
An enormous tumble of boulders rest at the bottom of the Niagara American Falls. Seeing people on the "Hurricane Deck" brings into scale how massive are the boulders that we see from the view across the Niagara River. Just above the Hurricane Deck is a section of the falls called the "Bridal Veil" that is separated from the rest of the falls by land diverting the river water.
Visitors following the series of decks and staircases can get as close as 20 feet to the roar an splashing of this natural wonder. Although looking fragile when viewed from a distance across the river and the Niagara Gorge, the decks are substantial and secure. They are painstakingly taken down for the winter season and rebuilt every year.

Wonderful image, Julie! I love the sense of scale by all the people in it. It definitely conveys the power of all that water!

I absolutely love the Hurricane Deck and this is a great image of what it is like to be there.

Such a grand and powerful scene! Love the rust red railings zig-zagging down the one side of the image . . . We humans are sure tiny for how important we think we are! . . .f/l
Julie Weber replied:
Thank you, Karen. So true. It's a powerful and wonderful place. I'm always in awe when I look at those boulders compared to the people.

A fantastic shot Julie....its almost terrifying to look at - that walkway looks to be such a fragile structure beside such natural force in the falls. Brilliant!!! Instant favourite
Julie Weber replied:
Thanks very much, Lesley. Yes,it does look ominous but only because the falls are so big. The decks are carefully rebuilt every year.
